The Council is an independent, non-partisan, federally incorporated non-profit organization comprised of representatives from academia, public and private sectors, energy and strategic planning professionals that promote public dialogue related to the generation, transmission and distribution of clean, affordable and reliable electricity. The Council has been instrumental in promoting neutral public forums for debate and information sharing between academia, business, international experts and multi-government levels.
Through the creation of facilitated conferences, energy leaders have gathered to better understand the challenges and potential solutions to common areas affecting energy in Canada and abroad. The Council has been responsible for identifying key issues in the energy field including discussions on coal, biomass, nuclear, electricity transmission and governance and regulation in the electricity sector. The organization has also played a central role in coordinating neutral debate and broad range discussion on electricity issues at facilitated conferences. Future public debate is planned on municipal governance in the electricity sector.
The Council understands the value of creating a broader and more inclusive public forum, and as a result has created the CCRE Commentary, an electronic publication that will be released about six times a year. The aim is to extend our existing network and conference activities by providing timely information on issues relevant to the electricity sector.
Leaders are looking to the Council to continue the neutral public dialogue through various forums on energy. The Council is strategically positioned to facilitate debate on the generation, transmission and distribution of clean, affordable and reliable electricity and exploring issues with a view to finding solutions for Canada and abroad.
